Desert Dreams

Desert Dreams

The night drags along like a tired old man
Trudging through a field of killer quicksand
Chasing away the moon
The heat of day comes soon
No escape from the sun
Sucking the life out of everyone

There is no love left in this house
The dog renders more affection
Than any human being
The deafening silence of bitter tears
Fading fast, so many years
Dirty secrets never told
No shelter from the midnight cold

A speeding car leaves you behind
Stranded in the desert, the middle of nowhere
The folly of youth
Kicks you in the ass
All that is left,
A bittersweet mirage
Dark and distant dreams
That may or may not come to pass
